than is a current articling student at Edelson Foord Law. Ethan graduated magna cum laude from the University of Ottawa’s J.D. program in 2025.
During his studies at the University of Ottawa, Ethan explored his passion for criminal law and desire to advocate for members of his community. Ethan was a student caseworker in the family division at the University of Ottawa Community Legal Clinic, assisting in providing free legal advice and representation to low-income community members and uOttawa and Carleton University students. Ethan also served as a research assistant at the University of Ottawa, where he conducted legal research pertaining to constitutional law, religious freedoms under the Charter, and medical assistance in dying. Ethan joined and continues to volunteer at Innocence Ottawa, striving to address wrongful convictions and miscarriages of justice by examining and re-investigating the cases of those who claim to have been wrongfully convicted, seeking proof of their innocence and a formal remedy under section 696.1 of the Criminal Code.
Prior to attending law school, Ethan completed his Honours Bachelor of Arts at the University of Toronto in 2022, graduating with high distinction and receiving the Magdelena Gryc Award for outstanding academic achievement in the Criminology & Sociolegal Studies program. Throughout his studies, Ethan developed his skills working for three summers at a law firm in his hometown, supporting counsel in providing various legal services pertaining to family law, civil litigation, and estate planning. He also participated in a program where he collaborated with members of Toronto’s Community Healing Project to develop resources and strategies to assist vulnerable and at-risk youth in the Toronto community.
Ethan first joined the Edelson Foord Law team as a student intern in 2023 and a summer student in 2024, before returning as an articling student. Ethan has experience assisting lawyers at the firm in regulatory offences and various criminal matters, including assaults, sexual assaults, impaired driving, drug trafficking, and criminal appeals.
