Genevieve McInnes

Genevieve McInnes is a criminal lawyer and associate at Edelson & Friedman LLP.

Genevieve joined the firm after ten years of practice with a prominent Toronto criminal law firm. She has a diverse practice that covers a wide range of criminal and regulatory matters and has appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice, the Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Appeal.

Genevieve has particular experience with complex large-scale prosecutions, constitutional litigation and the defense of individuals charged with sexual assault and related offences.

In addition to her busy criminal law practice, she lectures regularly on criminal law matters to academic and legal audiences, and is a term professor at the University of Ottawa Law School, where she teaches an advanced criminal law advocacy course. Genevieve was called to the Ontario Bar in 2006.

She received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Toronto in 2005, and her Masters Degree in Criminology from the University of Toronto in 2007, where she was the recipient of the John Edwards Award for most outstanding academic performance.

Genevieve is a member of the Criminal Lawyers’ Association of Ontario, the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa, the Toronto Lawyers Association and the County of Carleton Law Association.
